Meet Our Founder

Marissa’s love for black cats began at the age of three, when she started begging her parents for a black kitten. A year later, her family moved to a small hobby farm in Minnesota, where a few feral cats wandered the property. That first summer, Marissa found her dream cat—a little black kitten named Black Beauty, who quickly became the most amazing companion she could have imagined. Since that time, Marissa’s obsession with black cats never wavered. Over the years, the cat distribution system has brought her three more black cats, each one as special as the first. When Marissa learned that black cats are the most euthanized due to superstition and their perceived lack of photogenic appeal, she knew she had to take action. This passion led to the founding of Cat Noir Rescue, an organization dedicated to advocating for and rescuing black cats, ensuring they receive the love and care they deserve.

About Our Logo

Growing up, the founder, Marissa, loved dressing up her black male cats in pink, capturing the humor and patience of her beloved companions. This playful dynamic inspired the Cat Noir Rescue logo—a classic black cat embodying the spirit of putting up with a child’s mischievous antics.
